Description:

The Addiction Centre is a multidisciplinary outpatient treatment program located at the Foothills Medical Centre. Our treatment services include an Adult team and an Adolescent team who provide specialized psychiatric and therapeutic interventions for clients suffering from a substance use disorder or behavioural addiction and concurrent mental health disorders. Our adult team treats approximately 500 clients per year and our adolescent team treats approximately 175 clients and families per year.

Drop-out of substance misuse treatment is high and client engagement and retention are important issues to address for service providers. At the Addiction Centre, our adolescent clients struggle with maintaining motivation to address their substance abuse, as their attendance in our program is often driven by family members’ concerns. Given this, we would like to develop the potential to integrate a contingency management (CM) approach into our treatment activities, which currently include individual therapy, family therapy, and motivational interviewing.

This project was recently presented at the CRISM Prairie Node 2nd Annual Gathering held Nov 15-16, 2017 in Calgary, AB.
